Welcome to Steinbeck Country

Cradled between the Gabilan and Santa Lucia mountain ranges, the beautiful Salinas Valley has long been -- and still is -- a powerhouse of agriculture. Fun fact: more than 80 percent of the salad greens consumed in the USA are grown right here! The Salinas Valley's beautiful and expansive landscape was also the inspiration for much of John Steinbeck's prize-winning work, and the city of Salinas is the proud home of a museum dedicated to his life and art. The arts are further celebrated in the Old Town district of Salinas by First Fridays Art Walk -- a free monthly celebration of music, dance, art, literature, and more. From the traditional to the modern, Salinas embraces it all.
