Tips for Working From Home

Published on December 13, 2022 by Amy

WiThe ability to work from home has become increasingly common, and for many people, an apartment can be the perfect place to set up a home office. However, it's important to create a workspace that is conducive to productivity and comfort.

FA Dedicated Space

One of the key challenges of working from home in an apartment is finding a dedicated space for your office. If you don't have an extra room, you may need to get creative and carve out a workspace in a corner of your living room or bedroom. Choose a spot that is relatively quiet and has good lighting, and consider using a screen or curtains to create a sense of separation between your workspace and the rest of the room.

Another important factor to consider when setting up a home office in an apartment is ergonomics. Make sure that your chair and desk are at the right height and that your computer monitor is at eye level to avoid neck and back strain. Investing in a comfortable, ergonomic chair can make a big difference in your comfort and productivity.

Dress for Success

Go ahead, pajama wearers—let out those groans now. While it is nice to have the option of wearing your favorite jammies or yoga pants when you work from home, it’s important to set psychological work/relaxation boundaries by getting dressed. You don’t have to wear a tailored Tom Ford Suit or anything. Just put on something you wouldn’t be embarrassed to wear in public.

Make a Schedule

It doesn’t matter if you do your best work late at night or early in the morning. The key to optimizing productivity at home is to set a schedule and stick to it. Use an online calendar or time-management app to simplify the process. Structure your time in blocks so you aren’t constantly bouncing from one task to another and then back again. For example, you might schedule specific times to:

  • Check e-mail
  • Work on a presentation
  • Do research
  • Read industry blogs
  • Update your computer

With a little creativity and planning, you can create a functional and comfortable home office in your apartment.
